In the event of a bank’s bankruptcy, deposits are covered under the Danish Guarantee Fund for Depositors and Investors Act. The Guarantee Fund covers an eligible depositor’s funds up to an amount equivalent to €100,000 (approx. DKK 750,000). The maximum coverage applies to the total deposits in the bank, even if the funds are placed in different accounts, including both client accounts and personal accounts.
Special rules apply to deposits related to real estate if the property has been used for, or is intended for, primarily non-commercial purposes. In such cases, amounts up to €10 million are covered for up to 12 months after the deposit was made, regardless of whether the funds are placed in a separate account. Further information about the Guarantee Fund can be found on its website: www.gii.dk.
We are four independent law firms sharing an office, providing legal assistance primarily within criminal law and immigration law.
